DONCASTER ST LEGER 1815

The 40th winner of the St Leger, held on Monday 25th September 1815 over the St Leger course of Town Moor, was Filho Da Puta, a bay colt by Haphazard out of Mrs Barnet, owned by Sir William Maxwell, trained by James Croft at Glasgow House, Middleham and ridden by John Jackson. A field of 15 runners contested the race, although there were 59 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 1475 Guineas. (Equivalent to £113,200 in 2017)

The running was made by Restoration until headed after half a mile by Dinmont. He continued to lead until the Red House when Filho Da Puta moved up to his girths. At the distance the favourite was shaken up and won in a common canter. The winner won 9 of his 13 races, including the Doncaster Stakes at the same meeting as the St Leger, and later the Richmond Cup in 1815 and the Doncaster Cup in 1816. Over Round 120%
